More and more mothers are making The Birthing Center at Cameron Hospital their choice. In the past two years, we’ve seen an increase in the number of babies born at Cameron Hospital, which makes a huge impact to our community!

We spoke with two experts on The Birthing Center to learn what makes Cameron Hospital the ideal choice for delivery.

Meet the Experts

Jenny Culler is the OB director at The Birthing Center. She has more than 20 years’ experience as an obstetrics nurse. An Angola native, she jumped at the chance to join The Birthing Center at Cameron when the opportunity presented itself last year.

Gina Hirschy, Cameron’s birth planner and OB educator, is an experienced RN, focusing on labor and delivery. She’s taught childbirth and newborn care classes for years. She’s also a certified car seat technician, who can assist with proper car seat installation and guidelines. Gina is often the first contact new parents have with The Birthing Center.

Why Cameron?

Both Jenny and Gina have quick answers when asked why they chose to join the Cameron team. Jenny, who worked for several years at a large regional hospital, says the chance to work in her hometown really excited her. She says she loves the continuity of care Cameron provides patients. She explains, “At Cameron, we make the time to really get to know our new parents. When families return for their next delivery, having that familiar face who remembers everything about them and their previous deliveries is special, and something only a hometown hospital can provide. Gina agrees, and adds that the family culture at Cameron helps to build strong bonds with all those who walk through The Birthing Center door.

Birth Planner

As Cameron’s birth planner, Gina helps parents, especially first-time parents, adjust to their new roles. She serves as a connection between a new mother’s OB provider and The Birthing Center. “My passion is to serve patients as they adapt to parenthood or expanding their family. We have a variety of classes, from childbirth classes to breastfeeding support, to help them feel more supported during their childbirth journey.”

The Birthing Center Benefits

After working for years at a large hospital, Jenny believes people may not realize that The Birthing Center at Cameron Hospital offers all the amenities of large hospital. “We provide a safe, secure and comfortable birthing experience, with the same benefits without traveling far from home.”

Special Touch

Both Jenny and Gina say that one of the more unique and most popular programs The Birthing Center offers new parents is the Special Touch Program. Special Touch provides one-on-one contact with a nurse at a follow-up visit after discharge. Gina explains, “A few days after discharge, we invite mother and baby back to the hospital. We check the baby’s weight, see how things are going at home and answer any questions that they may have.” All The Birthing Center staff feel this program offers parents peace of mind. Cameron provides this service free of charge. As Jenny says, “It’s just another way The Birthing Center builds solid relationships with our families.”
