Why See an Orthopaedic Specialist?
Once you’ve established primary care and are experiencing musculoskeletal injury symptoms, set up an appointment with an orthopaedic specialist at Cameron Medical Group in Angola, Indiana. Orthopaedic doctors have advanced knowledge and training beyond your primary care doctor and can help you get back on track to living comfortably and enjoyably.
Some common reasons individuals see an orthopaedic specialist are:
Compression Fracture
A compression fracture is a vertebrae break or type of fracture. It’s often due to osteoporosis (loss of bone mass) occurring with aging. A cough, fall, or lifting a heavy item can lead to a fracture of your back bones.
Broken Bone
A broken bone, also referred to as a fracture, is where you have a break that goes through all or part of your bone. Things like overuse, trauma and diseases that cause the bones to weaken can cause broken bones.
Joint Dislocation
A dislocation is a painful joint injury that can immobilize and deform your joint temporarily.
Stress Fracture
A stress fracture is a small crack in your bone. It’s most often in the weight-bearing bones of your foot and lower leg. A stress fracture is often caused by overuse and repetitive force, like from repeatedly running long distance or jumping up and down.
Chronic Bone or Joint Pain
An orthopaedic specialist can evaluate chronic joint and bone pain, especially in places like your knee, neck, back, or elbows.

Types of Orthopaedic Services & Care
Thorough exams and diagnostics
Our providers will conduct a full exam and run the necessary tests to determine a diagnosis.
Fracture treatment
The doctor will come up with a treatment plan to repair any fractures; often this will be in the form of casts or splints.
Soft tissue injuries treatment
Soft tissue injuries often respond to the R.I.C.E. method which is rest, ice, compression and elevation.
Osteoarthritis treatments
The doctor will work with you to develop a treatment plan for osteoarthritis. This treatment plan could include therapy, medication, or orthopaedic surgery. Surgery isn’t always required for every type of orthopaedic condition.
Non-surgical orthopaedic treatments
Our orthopaedic team here at Cameron Medical Group provides a wide range of non-surgical treatments to treat skeletal pain, muscle pain and lack of mobility effectively. Some orthopaedic non-surgical treatments might include topical or oral medications, physical therapy, steroid injections, and rehabilitation services. Treatments like these can strengthen joints and muscles, restore proper movement, and increase range of motion without the need for surgery.
Total joint replacements
This is a surgical procedure where the orthopaedic surgeon removes and replaces parts of a damaged or arthritic joint with a plastic, metal or ceramic device known as a prosthesis.
Reconstructive surgery
Reconstructive surgery focuses on musculoskeletal system surgical reconstruction or surgical reconstruction of the ligaments, bones, tendons, joints, and related structures.
We’ll help you make the decision on the optimal care path for your orthopaedic condition to get you back on your feet and achieve your personal health goals.
